Not every sickness needs a trip to the hospital.
Sometimes we fall ill because of working 24/7. Others fall sick under the stress. Maybe even because of the weather. Or it was a really bad night.
There are so many reasons why we might fall sick. While we would like to believe we are invincible, we are only human. Even if we are a CEO of a telecommunication company or a social media company in Malaysia, sickness is not far from us.
So how can we take care of ourselves during those times? There are several things we can do even if we are alone because of the lockdown or the pandemic.
A hospital trip may be the last step you might need so let’s take a look at these tips.
- Call In Sick
Place down your laptop, it’s time that you take a break. If you have work, make sure to call in sick. If you have school. Let your teachers know of your state. The last thing you should be doing when you are sick is working to death. Working while sick is not going to bring any productive and efficient results. Your work may turn out sloppy and it will remain like it was done by a first-grader. Being sick lowers your ability to focus and stay attentive. And when sick, to concentrate is to strain your own self.
- Drinking lots of fluids
Staying hydrated is the most fundamental and the most crucial step towards recovery. Hydration helps us recapture the water that was lost from the body and prevents us from being completely dehydrated. It can slightly energize us and help the body fight against the infection and the oncoming fever as the result of the infection as well. Fluids are not only reserved for water. Fluid can mean anything from fresh orange juice to passion fruit concoctions.
- Lots of Sleep
Maybe calling in sick what was you needed to recover. But calling in sick does not mean you are going to spend time binge-watching series or doing some work from home. The time for a sick call is reserved for a lot of sleep. Catch up on the sleep you did not get over the weekend and give your body the rest it fully deserves.
- Eat Fruits
Fruits are packed with Vitamin C and full of anti-oxidants. When we are sick with a sore throat or overwhelmed with fatigue and pain, a fruit can alleviate the painful effects too. A sore throat can be alleviated with some citrusy food like orange. Hydration and cooling down can be obtained from watermelon. A fibrous fruit can help us alleviate any effect of constipation too. Fruits such as papaya, banana, and apples are here for your rescue.
- Call Your Family And Friends
Even if you are far away in lockdown, calling your family and friends while you are sick will help you. It can make us feel less lonely and give us the motivation to get better. Family can cheer you up and friends can drop by for a quick check-up on you as well. Be sure to stay connected with them and let them know of your status.
